Oh, that is nice! I see so many people have to ‘sneak’ in time to write because someone doesn’t approve. It’s sad, really.

I have been determined never to make writing ‘work’ — which doesn’t mean I don’t work hard and long at it, but for me it’s just an attitude adjustment, which helps in my case. I can’t say that it always will, though.

      That is sad.

I actually started referring to my writing as “work” and my “job” when extended family and friends (after I went part-time at the day job so I could write more) started asking me, “So how was your day off?” As if I went part-time to simply enjoy sitting at home eating bon-bons and watching soaps. LOL! Not to mention some of them wanted to start doing lunch dates on my “off” days or wanting me to babysit. So I had to draw that line in the sand pretty quick. I had to gently explain to everyone that writing was a job just like any other and it was income my dh and I depended on to live. So while I still do a lunch date here and there, people finally began respecting my work as a real job. But I had to refer to it as such to get them to start taking it seriously.

I will say this, however, it is the best job I’ve ever had. I love it. Even on days where something is driving me nuts or I have to do more business-of-writing stuff instead of actual writing, it’s still 100% more enjoyable than a day at a day-job. I wouldn’t change it for the world. :)

I’m lucky because my husband fully and completely supports my writing — at any and all times. Our vacations are filled with long discussions about what I’m working on. Even trips to the store end up that way sometimes. LOL

Stop for three weeks? Nah. He wouldn’t expect me to stop for a day.

Usually my husband is okay with my writing. I work 7 days a week and sometimes into the wee hours of the morning. He also puts up with my lax housekeeping. Plus my writing income is what makes it so he can go to school right now without having to work. So I wouldn’t say he’s not supportive. The deal was he felt I needed a break (and he was probably right). He told me he didn’t mind if I brought the computer with us, but he really wanted to spend that time with me. So while I enjoyed the vacation immensely since it was probably the first one I’d had in about three years, it did drive me crazy not having the computer. I don’t think I’ll ever agree to that again and I told him as much. LOL!

I find breaks beneficial. However, sometimes they’re not good. This past autumn I took a three week vacation with my husband and I didn’t bring a computer with me. I was SO happy when I got home and could write again. Drove me crazy to go *that* long without writing.

Admittedly I did have a small notebook with me and jotted stuff down when DH wasn’t looking, but that’s another story, and it’s not quite the same thing.
