I’m writing the third Redpoint One SF romance for this Nano. It’ll be fun to return to an alien space station with cute little bots and love in the air.

Synopsis

Does love stand a chance among alien pets and intrigues?

Mara Schist’s rare daubpups get her into Redpoint One’s annual Exotic Pet Show, but winning a prize isn’t on her list of priorities. Finding them a new habitat is, and she can’t let an attraction to Damien get in the way of the daubpup’s survival.

Life-support engineer Damien Lysander is busy with failing systems that threaten both the show and the station. To top off his troubles, there is Mira with her daubpups and their touchy environmental requirements… and the fireworks when they are together.

Add into the mix the nosy Naughty Knitter’s Club, interfering repair bots, a series of pet-nappings, and daubpups who just won’t stay in their cages…

How can love not bloom?

My biggest fear is the thing that sent me feet-first into the Indie waters: Writing the kind of stories I can’t find.

The fear: What if I’m the only one who wants to read stories like this? Is my career sunk even before it’s begun?

I move past it by keeping my head down, keep writing, and keep releasing. The “Indie ‘No Fear’ Challenge” is helping with the releasing side of things. The challenges, dares, workshops and classes here at FM and Nano-land keep me going on the writing and revising part.

Keeping my head down and doing the other two is the harder part. It’s too easy to fall into the trap of looking to see what is selling better out there. While that can be nice to know (and I know the basic genres that sell better) it could also be dangerous because it could kill my love of writing if I pursued one of those paths.

I’m happy writing these kinds of stories. I just have to keep reminding myself of that and keep moving forward.

Whee, a new forum! So far I’m really liking the avatars, profiles, and the ease of posting.

I know the cosmetics will change, but one thing I would love to see returned sooner rather than later is the FM idea generator.

The Leader Board and total FM words were also fun, but I don’t know if that is still feasible with the new design.

Yes, another crazy night in Chat. In this case it was just before Nano of 2011. Here is a cleaned-up version of the transcript. Just so you can see how crazy we get sometimes…

zette: I think I need 3 POVs. But those 3 may vary with each section.
Dreamerscove : The princess, the lizard, and the boatman. There you go. Three.
zette: Don’t do that. You know my brain immediately tries to put a story together.
zette don’t want another story. I do not see that list.

Dreamerscove : I was looking at it and going, DARN!
Dreamerscove : What is the lizard up to, and why is the boatman involved????
Dreamerscove : oooooor
jadedragon : Is the boatman on the river styx? And is a prince involved or is that the lizard?
Dreamerscove : Maybe it’s the Princess who is up to something and the lizard is just trying to save the world!
jadedragon : why sell the boatman short dreamer. It’s the boatman who’s trying to save the world.
zette:My first thought, of course is the opening in the Lizard’s POV. “They always talk about the poor schmuck of a prince turned into a frog. But what about the rest of us? Who wants to kiss a lizard?”
jadedragon : He just may be the king is disguise!
Dreamerscove : HAH!

zette:Of course, then there’s the problem of the boatman.

zette:Or the princess is traveling somewhere, the lizard is hiding in her luggage.
jadedragon : And just maybe the princess is evil and she turned the tropics into a desert and she has enslaved the frogs. They must rescue the frogs for all the other princesses of the world.
Dreamerscove : I like the voice of Zette’s lizard.
zette am not paying attention.
zette:really.
Dreamerscove : Oh yeah, sure.
zette: Damn
Dreamerscove : We believe you.
zette:Okay, the princesses mother turned the eligible guys into lizards. She’s afraid she’ll lose power once her daughter marries.
zette:The daughter is running away from home, which is fine with the queen.
Ashe : LOL
Ashe : Princess is in for a shock once she realizes what it’s like without the cushion of riches to support her.
Dreamerscove : And there goes that plotting brain. And this is Zette when she’s tired!
zette was deeply, madly passionately in love with Prince Zantris right until my mother turned him into a lizard.
zette:What happened to the king? Is he now king of the lizards?

Ashe : King died of illness when princess was little and mother took over.
