Things began innocently enough.

Bundled in cedar-cented red mourning foxfurs with heavy boots on, the child silently wept salty tears that froze in the eternal winter while standing on a high balcony on a palace tower, face expressionless as members of a red-clad party in the courtyard below shouted drunkenly in celebration of the death of the king.
