Liking the new forum, wondering if I can still get access to old posts on the old forum?

So I’m back in FM, one of the best, nicest, most supportive places for writers on the web.

I grew up in Ramsden Bellhouse, a little (formerly Quaker) village between Billericay / Mayflower and Wickford. It was all open fields back then, sadly all built over now with some very questionable architecture. I went to school in Chelmsford, and I still come back to Essex and London too on occasion to visit friends and relatives in the homeland. But these days, after having moved around from country to country and place to place for most of my adult life, I am settled in Wales. We have a couple of acres just outside the little village of Devauden; some animals; a beautiful son and I teach at a high school a few towns away in Pontypool.

I have worked as a researcher, a university lecturer, a video games designer and producer, ghostwriter and high school teacher. This doesn’t include all of the little side jobs I have had over the years, like truck driving and barman. I used to be a little glum at the number of jobs I’ve had, until I read a great interview (back in 1997 I think it was) with J.K. Rowling where she talked about having had dozens more jobs than I had :-) so now I don’t feel so bad about it.

I’ve had work published in the past, and I’m currently working on my latest novel which is due out in 2013. I have scheduled a short break over the coming few weeks to write a short story collection, due out by March 15th.

My novel has a working title of ‘We Are The Pigs’ and it is a mystery / thriller with supernatural overtones, set in what is essentially a children’s hospice. I’m ending this novel with a sequel or sequels being a strong possibility.

My short story collection has a working title of ‘Omi’ and all of the stories are on a theme inspired by an article in the press about German grandmothers.

I have two outlines for future novels after that: a medieval grotesque comedy about two friends forced to work for a tyrannical sultan (I outlined this in 2003 while on holiday in France, and it just feels like a novel series so I have saved it up); and a pseudo-historical ‘what if?’ novel of the British resistance against German occupation in WWII. (I started outlining this one a long time ago but when not one, but two friends both brought out novels on exactly the same subject matter, I decided to leave a healthy gap before I came to write mine).

I see some familiar names here already, and I’m looking forward to getting to know everyone, old or new, and doing some great reading and writing with you :cheer:

Welcome back to Forward Motion! Yeah, things have changed a bit around here, but we still have friendly helpful people.

The old boards are up as of this second, but from what I understand they will soon disappear (the latest version of PHP is breaking them). You can find it here for a short time: http://fmwriters.com/community/dc/dcboard.php

Welcome back to the site. I’ve always thought of Wales as being a pretty country. You’re very lucky to live there. Have a look around the site and if you have any questions, please ask.

Thanks for the welcomes :-) It is nice to be back. I must remember to poke about in the old forum too, to see if I left any work in there that I don’t have copies of.
