I’m hoping for the 25 books in a year goal
January 13, 2013 at 9:44 pm #210388Second book in the series and an enjoyable read. Witches, vampires, and demons… All in Elizibethan England. A few historical characters float in and out of the plot, and I must say, it’s hard to think a about Christopher Marlow in the same way anymore
January 13, 2013 at 9:47 pm #210389First in a YA trilogy set in a dystopian future in Chicago. Having visited the city this summer, it’s quite fun to recognize a landmark or two
. YA books are hit or miss for me, but after my son got it out of the library for me, I had to read it! Anyway, it is an enjoyable read with a few twists and turns. The story moves along quit well and limits the teen angst
January 13, 2013 at 10:22 pm #213999I might look for this at my library, though I’m not big on dystopias.
January 21, 2013 at 1:39 am #210390Rereading this one. It’s one of the earlier books in her Union Alliance series, which remains my favorite works of hers. It introduces Betas and azi and the deep study tapes that play such big roles in Cyteen and Regenisis. Very great stuff!
Not quite sure what category this book is. Definitely space based science fiction. Politics plays a role, but so does human psychology. But the biggest piece is the culture she creates with the majat (a term I have to fight my autocorrect from correcting!)
March 24, 2013 at 8:25 pm #210391Playing catch up:
3: dead house gate – Steven Erikson (dark fantasy)
4: Command Decision – Elizabeth Moon (sf)
5: Freefall – mcMaster-Bujold (sf)
6: Andromeda’s Fall – William Deitz (sf)The last two were okay, but not what I’d recommend, the first two get a definite thumbs up.
March 24, 2013 at 11:18 pm #217849I loved the quaddies in Freefall!
