      Hi, all.

It’s been a while — in fact, it’s been two or three years since I last checked in at FM, and to my surprise, all of my information was gone due to the site conversion.

Completely understandable, but it still threw me for a loop.

Anyway, I originally joined in either 2002 or 2003, so many of the old-timers should know me, I hope . . . I have good news to share, and figured I’d drop in to share it. Not sure where the “good news” forum is just yet, so I’ll share it here and maybe end up sharing it elsewhere, too, once I figure the new site out.

So here it is — my novel, ELFY, has a home at Twilight Times Books, and was accepted for publication last August. Due to ill health on my end, my final proofread has not yet been done (the publisher wants me to go over things one final time, possibly because I’ve helped her with a number of other projects since ELFY was accepted and she trusts my editing), but I hope to see the first part of ELFY out as an e-book later this year.

The second piece of good news is that I sold a story to Phyllis Irene Radford’s “How Beer Saved the World” anthology, and the anthology has been out for just over a month. (My story is called “On the Making of Veffen,” and here’s a Link to Amazon US for “How Beer Saved the World”.)

I’m also maintaining a blog called either Elfyverse or Barb Caffrey’s blog, still review books over at Shiny Book Review from time to time (fewer since the recent unpleasant illness), and even at Amazon now and again due to being an Amazon Vine reviewer.

So that’s what’s been going on with me . . . as for what I’m doing here again, I figured maybe finding a few of my fellow writers to chat with now and again certainly would be a good thing.

That’s all I know . . . glad to “see” you all again! (So to speak.)

      Barb

Barb! How awesome to see you again!

Glad you’ve finally sold Elfy! I know that’s been a long road for you, with lots of pain and meaning. Congratulations!

Good to see you again, Barb. And congratulations on the sales! I know there was an awful lot invested in the stories, so I’m happy for you.

Great at theory, terrible at practice.

            Hi, Barb! Welcome home!

Congratulations on Elfy’s impending [strike]birth[/strike] publication!

            Happy writing,

It’s good to see another familiar face. I don’t think we ever talked on the old FM, but I recognize your name. ;)

                Thanks, Erin.

I’ve read several of your stories recently — at Daily SF, and a few other places. (Well, “recently” being relative. In the last year or two.) I’m glad your career is going well.

I’m very pleased that “Elfy” has finally been sold. And I hope things will start to turn around from a writing perspective. (I’m getting to be better known as an editor and have found some clients who seem to like my work, and have had repeat business. It’s still not a full-time endeavor, partly because my Mom’s health is not good and there isn’t anyone else to help her, but that part of things is going well.)

Now I have to figure out what’s going on with “Elfy Abroad,” as one of my characters is acting in a wholly inexplicable manner. B)

Thanks, John, LyricalMoon and Magic Seeker. I appreciate your kind words.

Yes, I’m very pleased that “Elfy” will be finally coming out. Taking a last editorial pass, and making sure my break-point (as I did have to split it in half, with a new title probably coming for the first half) makes sense.

John, my story in “How Beer Saved the World” was also like that — personal, and fraught with meaning, but also I hope an entertaining story. (Different from anything else in the anthology, to be sure.) I wanted to dedicate the story to my late best friend Jeff Wilson, who died in 2011. I wasn’t able to find the words, but did discuss the story somewhat on my blog, and that in my heart, I thought about Jeff often when I wrote the story. (I think he’d have liked it.)

At any rate, I hope all your careers are going well, writing-wise and otherwise. :) And I’m definitely glad to see you all again.

Barb, so good to see you again. Congratulations! That’s wonderful news for ELFY and your story for the anthology.
