In Komarr and A Civil Campaign she writes about how Ekaterin is attracted to Miles despite his physical oddities.

Gives me hope I might yet attract a woman despite being old and poor and fat

For me it would be strange, off-beat, boring social life, and overactive downright odd imagination. :D

Thank goodness most of that actually helps with the writing. 😆

Hmmm. I never think of myself as old, poor, and fat. In my head, I’m still 21, have enough money to buy some luxuries because I live in squalor, and I turn out to be surprisingly thin even though I think I’m overweight…except evidence is mounting that I’m old (add 30 years!), not enough money, and fat (add fifty pounds!).

Fortunately, I got married about 22 years ago. Should I ever become single again, though, I suspect I shall be in big trouble, Ms. Bujold’s assurances or no.

Great at theory, terrible at practice.
