Sounds like they were able to figure out specifically what type of breast cancer it is. That’s great!
We’re all rooting for you. Lots of hugs from our household!

For what it’s worth, I was grateful after my hysterectomy. Life got soooo much easier.

September 28, 2013 at 8:02 pm #221699A brief update:
I saw the Oncologist, and she was able to explain the difference between Stage (which I’ve forgotten) and Grade (which I vaguely remember). I stated before my cancer was Stage 3, but they won’t actually know that until they have the tumors taken out and tested. What they were able to explain to me is that it’s Grade III, which basically means it’s already spread to the lymph nodes.
I have surgery to remove the tumors from my right breast and right underarm lymph nodes on Monday at 11 AM. About three to six weeks after this (to give me time to heal), I’ll begin chemotherapy up at the VA Hospital.
I’ll be making it very clear I want a hysterectomy when I see my Oncologists on the 17th of October. I’ll be required to take hormone suppressants regardless, but I don’t want to keep my reproductive organs if it means hormone suppression may have a chance of causing cancer in my ovaries at some later date, and I think it might. If the VA won’t do the hysterectomy, I have another option a friend made me aware of for other reasons some weeks ago, and I’ll definitely be using it. I expect this all to happen after chemo and radiation, however, so I have time to get things moving.

September 28, 2013 at 10:58 pm #222182I would be very surprised if the VA refused to do the hysterectomy. You’ll be in my thoughts and prayers on Monday and as you recover.
