About a month ago, I found a lump in my right breast. Late last week, I had a mammogram to determine whether or not the lump needed further attention, and an ultrasound was decided on. In the course of the ultrasound exam, they found an additional lump on my right lymph node as well, and performed biopsies on both that and my breast lump as a result.
I got the results today.
I have breast cancer and on the lymph node.
My primary care doctor said the next step is for her to contact the Oncologist and surgical doctor. She’s to call me tomorrow afternoon with the projected course of action we’ll be taking to get rid of the cancer, and I’ve been told to expect surgery, Chemo, and radiation treatments. As I’m getting care through the Veteran’s Administration Hospital local to me, I don’t expect to need any kind of financial assistance, so please make no offers.
I’ll post more as I learn it.

Great at theory, terrible at practice.
September 10, 2013 at 2:35 am #221685Take care. I am a perpetual Pollyanna in these cases, believing we live in a wondrous time of medicines and things that would have been miracles a few decades ago. Not that I don’t worry — but I have a belief in good thoughts, too. So I am having very many good thoughts for you.
September 10, 2013 at 3:09 am #221686Lots of hugs are coming from our house, Ashe! It’s good that you jumped on this right away. We’re all hoping for a really good result to the treatments, too.

September 10, 2013 at 3:09 am #221687I’m sorry to hear that. If you won’t find it offensive, I’ll pray for you.
September 10, 2013 at 3:19 am #221688Thank you all for your kind responses. Kind thoughts, prayers, and good energy sent my way are all welcome. My Mom’s done a little reasearch on it, and she thinks things look pretty good for my success with getting past the cancer.

My understanding is that can seriously affect everything from how aggressively they treat it to chance of recurrence.
September 10, 2013 at 3:45 am #221709So glad you’ll be getting good, speedy care. So sorry you have to deal with it. Prayers for successful treatment and everything you need to get throughout this spot.
September 10, 2013 at 4:30 am #221692Hugs, Ashe. Glad they caught it and sending good thoughts your way for the treatment being swift, effective , and as tolerable as possible in the circumstances.

~*~September 16, 2013 at 2:42 am #221694I’ve got a somewhat busy two weeks ahead. I’ll be up at the VA on Weds this week for a consult with the surgeon, and on Thurs to see the Oncologist after a visit to the lab there for bloodwork before my appt with her. Next Weds, I’ll be seeing the genetic counsilor, presumably regarding whether or not I have the breast cancer gene; she and I already did something of a family history over the phone, which wasn’t very informative for her in some respects because I know little about the past and present health concerns of my father’s side of the family. Then, the next day, I’ve got an appointment with my therapist, and that’s bound to be interesting.
I’m kind of looking forward to getting some answers and hearing what these people have to tell me about the cancer-fighting process.
