Hello everyone,
I am totally new to the site. I’ve been writing for years but more as a hobby – mostly fantasy. This is the year I’ve decided to get serious and really work at it. I’m married, have a 17 year old son, an Australian Cattle Dog mix and five cats (they are irresistable as kittens!). I’m also a volunteer firefighter and like to knit. I think that’s about it. I’m happy to be here and look forward to meeting everyone.Steph
January 18, 2013 at 1:15 pm #214407sburrows, Awesome, looks like you’ve got loads of life experience to inspire your writing! Good luck. Coming back here was sort of a way for me to commit to writing again as well (new years resolutions and all).
Good luck with everything!

Welcome!
This is a great time for writers to get serious about producing copy and really work at it. You probably already know why I said that.
As I write this at 4AM in North Carolina (it’s cold here!! brrr) I have a kitty named Muffin on my lap. She’s one of four who currently reside with me in my little old Dodge RV, all of them descendants of a most special cat named Lady.
Anyway, welcome.
BTW, what exactly is an Australian Cattle Dog? I don’t think I’ve ever seen one…

January 21, 2013 at 12:30 am #214410Hi Steph! Welcome to FM!
We had an Australian Cattle Dog when I was young. He herded my little (2yo) brothers around by nipping at their heels. He never hurt them, but how they cried! Mom finally gave up and found him a home on a real cattle ranch.
Happy writing,

Cattle dogs can be a tough breed for sure and it sounds like yours had a pretty high herding drive. Ours occasionally herds the cats but is insanely mellow for a cattle dog. We got him a few years ago from rescue and they did a very nice job of screening and training him so that he fit nicely into our household. Plus he has some Border Collie or Australian Shepherd in him so that helps
We had malamutes before this – it’s very nice to have a dog who listens finally!
January 21, 2013 at 2:30 pm #214411Hi, Steph.
Glad you’re here, hope you find what you need.
Cats–well, allergies mean that I haven’t lived with one for thirty years. Dogs–no dog listens (or maybe I’m a very poor trainer, which is more likely….)
Australian Cattle Dogs are very doggy-looking dogs, aren’t they? I mean, they match pretty well with the ur-dog in my mind. Much more so than my two dogs….
Welcome, have fun, learn lots!
John
Great at theory, terrible at practice.
January 23, 2013 at 1:48 am #214412Everyone starts writing somewhere. Doing it as a fun hobby is great. For moving to the next step, you found a good site for it. Welcome to Forward Motion!
