I am a solo indie game developer, unreleased. My game is a fantasy random gacha hero collector. I am sorting through years of unorganized notes and structuring world setting/events/characters for my game. I’m planning on improving my notes enough for a professional service to apply it to my game designs. I’m currently moving my thoughts onto cradle and would be grateful for any advice.

        Hello Cameron! Welcome to FM!

I don’t know anything about gaming, but I hope someone here can help you.

I got the game covered. I desperately need advice on pulling together all of my world building notes into something besides a pile of chaos!

I would start by making folders by type: Characters, for example, with a file for each character name, including descriptions, relationships, and histories for each. The same for land regions, cities, weather patterns, wars (current and past), trade routes, anything else that applies to your game. We call this a story bible, and your app creators will need all the detail you can give them.

            I hope this helps!

This is the sort of advice I need right now! I’ve found a lot of advice online about world building but not much on how to make a useful story bible.

Is there any other advice you can give me on important details i may forget to include in my story bible? Or any advice on taking ideas and putting them in organized black and white?

              Thanks you!

Here’s a couple of articles that might help (that I admit I didn’t read):

Googling ‘Create “story bible” ‘ brings up a bunch of results.

I actually never though of the phrase “story bible” as significant and was googling “world building”. You advice did give me a lot more specialized articles to read. Thank you very much!

I’ve read several books, K.M. Weiland is my favorite: https://www.helpingwritersbecomeauthors.com/

Her book is 5 years old and was recently turned into a program, I hate the software but the book is amazing. I found the book at my library.

For software, Scrivener is great even though the new version still isn’t released for windows.

                        I over research everything…
