Or are you a hermit like me, and dread the holidays with all your heart? :S
For me, Thanksgiving is a day of screaming children, quarreling adults, and drunk nephews. Every year I hope to get too sick to be able to attend. (Hasn’t happened yet. Sigh.) When I finally get home, I’m too exhausted to write.
Do you have better — or worse — experiences during the holidays? Tell us about them. Inspire me. Please!
Happy writing,

Some days I wish I lived five hours away from most of my relatives.

https://margaretmcgaffeyfisk.com/the-steamship-chronicles/November 21, 2016 at 10:24 pm #252012I love pumpkin pie!
I ignore all holidays. I take each day as it comes, enjoy it, deal with problems as quick as I can, then return to writing, or painting, or sewing or reading, or whatever else I want to do.
I love being retired.
Oh, I do occasionally visit relatives and enjoy their company, but never on a commercially driven, nominated day of the year.
November 22, 2016 at 1:18 am #252059I admit I enjoy my relative in small groups. Very small groups. But thirty-odd of them has me pulling my hair out weeks before the BIG DAY.

http://www.djsalisburybooks.com/Dead-Wizard-s-Loot.htmlNovember 23, 2016 at 12:50 am #252013I typically only spend Thanksgiving with my immediate family and with my husband’s family on Saturday. I get to see my three nephews who are all still under the age of 10(7,5-almost 6, and 22 months). I do see my family outside of the holidays, but I have a special love for holidays (especially, Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas). I will do whatever writing I can when I get home on Thanksgiving, just to keep the momentum moving and because it is Nano. While my family is in no way perfect and do drive me batty occasionally, I still love them anyway.
November 23, 2016 at 3:42 am #252067That sounds like fun! I usually spend Christmas day with just my immediate family, and I enjoy that (when they don’t insist on talking politics; I’m the odd bird out).
It’s the thirty-odd people I see once a year all in one room that gives me the miseries. :side:

http://www.djsalisburybooks.com/Dead-Wizard-s-Loot.htmlNovember 26, 2016 at 4:14 pm #252014I wouldn’t say I dread all the holidays. I am usually disappointed with Thanksgiving (never the Hallmark dream) but I do Nano in November and enjoy that. I love Christmas, often get sad at New Year. As for writing, I am usually breaking in December, but want to start again in January.
November 26, 2016 at 11:41 pm #252015Inspired? No, not necessarily. Thanksgiving is actually my favorite holiday, but it’s not inspirational at all in the fairy-tale movie “let’s learn an important lesson about xyz, because we should be thankful” type nonsense.
But I like spending time with my family, and we’re really low key. Nuthin’ fancy. No one has kids, we’re all adults, and we just make lasagna from scratch (family tradition), watch movies, and BS. I see it as a day I don’t have to go to the Day Job and I get paid to not be there.
Also, my birthday tends to fall either on Thanksgiving day or very near it. Which makes it hard to do anything interesting other than hang out…but I get a lot of writing done!
November 27, 2016 at 12:47 am #252082I suppose being disappointed in Thanksgiving is better than wanting to hide under the bed. The new year is one holiday I’ve never worried about (and obviously I’m a worrier  ).
Wishing you great success with NaNo!

Happy Birthday!
