122, Took me a while but I found you!
Posted by Krusty0369, Mon Mar-19-12 12:58 AM
Greetings All,
I've been looking for a place to help me hone my skills. I've been a voracious reader of Sci Fi and Fantasy fiction for decades. I was inspired by my daughter (who started writing short stories seven years ago at the age of six) to start getting all this stuff that's been floating around in my head down on paper/electrons. I just started seriously about a month ago and hope to develop my skills to the point where I would have the chops to get published. As a way of giving back to the community I can give advice or technical help to anyone who wants to write about small arms, weapons, armor or other military subjects in their stories. I spent 20 years in the Marine Corps. Mostly as an infantryman and later as a small arms R&D manager. I currently design firearms and other military hardware as a free lancer and have a broad knowledge of those topics that I would be more than happy to share with any members in need. Other than that I look forward to getting some of my work up for people to beat up... er I mean critique and interacting with folks who share a passion for story telling.

Glad you managed to get here.

There are many ways you can hone your skills, and critiques is one of them - giving as well as receiving. So jump on in and get going - Roving Crits is a good place to start.

As fo your knowledge, it is most welcome. If you have something you might like to share before being asked you could write up and post in the World Building forum.

Thanks for making me feel welcome!:)

As far as my career, It had its moments when I was on active duty but everone else's career always sounds more interesting than the one you've got. Things are a lot more sedate these days. I really love designing things because it's such a diverse job. Every project has it's own unique challenges so it's a proffession that rewards creativity. Hopefully my writting will get up to a comparable level.

I was tooling around the site last night and am looking forward to getting involved. As per CatrinP's suggestion, I'm currently putting together a post for the world building section on what may or may not be realistic when it comes to firearms, their use, and effects.

126, Welcome!

Hello Martin! Welcome to FM!

How cool you design hardware! Your knowledge will be greatly appreciated.

LOL that other people's careers sound more interesting than one's own - how true.

Again, welcome, and if you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

I think it's great that your daughter inspired you to start writing your stories down. Yay for your daughter!

Take your time, take a look around, and don't be afraid to comment or post questions or threads of your own. We're a pretty helpful bunch. We all want each other to succeed. It sounds like you have some good info to help others with, too.
