Hi all,

I'm Carrie. Ceige is just a name my sister called me, my initials, c j g squinched together into a word. I've been writing since I've been reading, and I've been doing both as long as I can remember.

I've recently decided to take myself more seriously and see if I can be a better writer. I've been taking classes, letting people read my (much fretted over) words, and generally asking for feedback. I've found that a "there is no sound in this scene, I feel deaf" is so much more helpful than a "this is good" so I've come looking for people who don't love me enough to lie to me.

I've been haunting this site for a few weeks and found it very helpful. I've checked out the chat rooms, read a few articles, and even dipped my toes into critiquing a few posts (though I'm still polishing my new first chapter before posting it for a critique – and I'm about to just make myself post it because polishing may have become procrastinating about six read-throughs ago).

I just love this site! I love the advice about setting goals (my new goal is to edit or write a scene a day – thank you ashe from the chat rooms). I love the advice on grammar. I know I'm overdoing the love-fest here, but I really do love how supportive this site is… it's so nice to finally find people who enjoy writing as much as I do.

I'm excited to be here and looking forward to getting to know all of you!

Thanks,
Carrie

Hi Maripat,

Thanks for welcoming me.... I do have a quick question. Can you tell me how you set the WIP ticker at the bottom of your post? (or send me to a post that explains?) I'd love to be able to visually track my progress.

Thanks!

Scroll up to the header. Far right bottom corner, right above where it says FM Writer's Words for 2012, there's a progress bar link. Click on that and it'll show the fields to fill in.

Let me know if that works for you.

Hi Carrie! Welcome officially to FM! I love it here, too.

It sounds like you've set a good and reasonable goal. I think you'll get a lot done with that one.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Hi Deb,

Thanks for the personal welcome.

I checked out your website and love the dragons but I have do a question... have you found a way to keep Churchhill off your lap while working?

Micah doesn't seem to understand the difference between a laptop and a book and his typing skills make my spell-checker unhappy!

Well back to writing, and thanks again for saying hi.

LOL! I have an old tower computer with a drawer for the keyboard. Churchill sits on my lap for a while, then insists on lying on the drawer - and the keyboard if I'd let him. So I switch the keyboard to my lap and let him have the drawer.

Sometimes, though, he lays his chin on the space bar. Suddenly I have a new blank page!

Churchill says Hi to Micah.

I'd let Micah say hi back to Churchill but his typing is abysmal.... though some days I'm certain he's trying to tell me something and cursing his paws for hitting multiple keys at once. Do you think he'll get better if I let him practice?

Hi ya, Carrie,
I'm very new here myself been looking around for about a week I guess. I really identify with the subject of your post. I just don't know if my work is good or whether people around me just say it is .

What genre are you writing in?

Welcome to a fellow newbie.
Paul

Fantasy/Scifi not much into the current vamp/werewolf things sorry.

I've been reading both Fantasy & Scifi all my life. In fact not much out of those genre's really interests me that much (some actual real-life history though).

At present I'm just honing skills. I know I have a novel inside somewhere but do I have the tenacity, imagination and time to get it out?

I'm not sure but you have to start somewhere.

I'm a bit of a perfectionist. Not happy unless what I do is the best I can make it (and often not happy then either ). It's a bit of a two edge sword when writing. I can take 10 minuites just writing one sentence every word needs to count :S.

As you could probably tell from the snippet you critiqued for me I love desription. Trying to get a handle on 'how the characters feel is proving harder that I would have thought without bitting into the mood I'm trying to create. But I'm sure It'll be worth it.
