I'm going for a minimum of 12, but it'll probably work out at a fair bit more than that!!

An enjoyable standalone fantasy - I found it pretty absorbing, but thought the ending undercut my expectations so was a little disappointed.

First in a trilogy - a big, fat, convoluted beast with troubled royalty and evil elves. Not enough of a conclusion to make it a satisfying stand-alone read, but not enough of a hook/involvement with the characters/situation for me to go out of my way to pick up the next 2 books, though will probably check them out if they happen to be there when I go the library and there's nothing more appealing on offer (the f/sf section is kind of small).

Ballard as disturbing as always (this time more so because it's all set so close to home) as a shopping mall set just down the road from here morphs into a fascist state and descent into violence and chaos. Very creepy stuff.

Went through these in a matter of days ... up until 5am one night because I literally couldn't bear to stop. 'nuff said, probably. Not as good as Farseer, but still great.

Another dark, uncomfortable thriller from Iain Banks, and a masterclass in how to use second person pov.

Not for the squeamish or the easily offended, or for people who like happy endings.
