A while ago I saw a movie with Tommy Lee Jones called In the Electric Mist, so I started reading The Neon Rain by James Lee Burke, the first in the series. It's present-day noir, set in New Orleans. The main character is a Vietnam vet turned cop who's recovering from divorce and alcoholism, and stumbles into a federal conspiracy. It's the sort of thing to read on a lazy Saturday ... sort of like being in a swamp: poetic and slow punctuated by something terrifying and sudden like an alligator attacking. I liked it a lot. ~~~~~~Signature's Off~~~~~~
