I hadn't read this for a while, and only once before. I didn't remember it all that well, so didn't know what to expect.

Frankly, I was a bit disappointed. It feels like something that was either dug out of storage from Keyes' early days, or that should have received editorial help and didn't. Maybe both.

It's not all bad - I enjoy most of the characters, and it has some nice moments in the romance aspect of it.

Some of the depression/alcoholism stuff she has done elsewhere, and much more effectively.

There is huge unbridled alternative speech tag abuse, frequently with unnecessary adverbial abuse thrown in. I'm not against either, but when almost every piece of dialogue on a page is suggested or grinned(!) or conceded or muttered, and most of them are done so quietly or coldly or gleefully, it starts to grate.

It just all feels a bit lacklustre and unpolished, which iss a shame, because it seems like with a bit of care and attention it would have been a far better book. As it is, there are several sections which are hard work to plough through.

I'm glad I only borrowed it!
