It was something that was supposed to deal with the problems of filling up the middle of the story. Her solution was for the author to insert another story with same characters into the middle, follow it for a few chapters, and then resolve it and return to the main story. Like, we're in the middle of the story, so let's stop for three chapters and have a romance, then we'll stop and get back to the story and pretend like nothing happened. Not like a subplot, but more like just adding extra pages to fill space.
