I'm sure others have done things like this, but it's a first for me.

I've set up a blog where I'm going to post a chapter a week of my current WIP.

My purpose in doing this is to play with engaging with readers during the creative process and see if it drives more people to take a chance on my novel currently for sale.

While I realize all the perils of having a work public vis a vis selling first rights, my agent has already told me the story would be a tough sell in today's market and she has several other of my manuscripts to go out on submission with.

This one is a YA SF story that I'm essentially writing for fun and because I'm not under contract to work on anything else.

If anyone is interested in reading along, the blog url:

Good luck! I've thought about doing this, too, so I'm really interested to see how this turns out for you.

This looks interesting, on a lot of levels. And I'm hoping at some point this might be available for sale, as a POD book at least. Because that first chapter looks interesting.

I have to say, though, I wonder if this is the best way to go about it. I mean, a separate site. A lot of people who visit your current site already might not bother to click the link (I'm assuming you at least have a link up there) but might read it if it were on the site they visited anyway. In other words, I'm not sure you aren't diluting your potential readership in advance, where to make this work, it would have been much better to draw in as many readers as possible first. (Sorry; I can't help reverting back to my time spent on the fringes of social media when something like this comes up.)

Thank you for your feedback! I'm hoping that when it's done and properly edited, et al, I'll be able to get it in the marketplace in some way or another.

I did consider just putting it up on my main blog, with a 'Derelict' tag for just the reasons you mention. However, I also wanted a place where the whole story would easily spool out on its own.

My compromise is to put a post on my Once in a Blue Muse Blog whenever a new chapter of Derelict is ready.

Again, thank you.

FYI, We're now up to chapter 3 and it looks like I'm getting a steady stream of new and returning readers, at least as far as the blogger stats are concerned.

I did an entire set of stories this way a few years ago. It was fun, but very difficult to draw anyone there. Good luck!
