Hmm, don't know how I missed this last year, but here goes. Let's see how much I can read this year :).

You missed it last year because Zette just started it this year. :P

Now that would explain it. I guess the people talking about it on the thread were talking about at other sites? Crazy.

My thoughts on the book and Karen Traviss are on my blog:

501, How to Teach Physics to Your Dog by Chad Orzel

Umm, I guess I forgot to keep up with this, so I'll just bring this up to date.

502, The Windup Girl by Paolo Bacigalupi
Posted by MarFisk, Sat Mar-20-10 12:46 AM
I read The Windup Girl by Paolo Bacigalupi because of recommendations and the Io9 book club. I'll have to keep an eye on what they're reading. I posted my review on my blog: http://margaretfisk.mmfcf.com/blog/?p=1059
503, A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin
Posted by MarFisk, Sat Mar-20-10 12:49 AM
I haven't had the chance to write a review yet, but I very much enjoyed wandering through the political and personal minefields.
504, The Rat Catcher by Kate Rothwell
Posted by MarFisk, Sat Mar-20-10 12:50 AM
A delightful historical romance with an interesting and surprising framework. I'll be posting a full review at some point.
543, Silky by Lazette Gifford
Posted by MarFisk, Wed Mar-31-10 01:56 AM
No review yet, but I really enjoyed this novel. It's like a fantastical biography of a slave's road to success.
750, 9: HeartMate by Robin D. Owens

Whoops, forgot to update this :).

751, 10: Iron Man 2 by Alexander Irvine
Posted by MarFisk, Tue Jun-01-10 12:33 AM
Review is here:

I've since seen the movie, and while the novel was written from the screenplay, I think the novel allowed the story to come together better. Honestly, though I enjoyed the movie, I felt the story chosen for this second one was too complex for the medium of the big screen.
752, 11: Dark of Night by Suzanne Brockmann
Posted by MarFisk, Tue Jun-01-10 12:34 AM
Mini review here, but I've reviewed Brockmann's books before so if you search for her name, you'll see a bunch of comments :).

I must say though that I'm loving this series.
755, 14: Steamed: A Steampunk Romance by Katie MacAlister
Posted by MarFisk, Tue Jun-01-10 12:38 AM
Full review here: http://margaretfisk.mmfcf.com/blog/?p=1250

It's a fun steampunk romp, with a little more explicit sex than expected but plot appropriate.
756, 15: This Is Not A Game by Walter Jon Williams
Posted by MarFisk, Tue Jun-01-10 12:40 AM
I just finished this book while away on a trip so I haven't written any thoughts down. My reactions to the book are complex though. Was it a good read? I'd have to say yes. He's a talented writer and that shows through. However, I didn't feel it was completely true to itself, almost as if Williams thought the story he'd begun wasn't good enough to see through to the end.

My thoughts in greater detail:

914, 16: Michelle Rowen’s The Demon in Me
Posted by MarFisk, Sun Aug-01-10 03:36 PM
Whoops, forgot to update this for a bit. The good news is that I'm not as far behind as I thought :). For a while there, though, most of my reading was short stories.

915, 17: Dreamveil: A Novel of the Kyndred by Lynn Viehl
Posted by MarFisk, Sun Aug-01-10 03:37 PM
Thoroughly enjoyed this one as usual. I appear not to have posted the review yet though :p.
916, 18: Magic Bleeds by Ilona Andrews
Posted by MarFisk, Sun Aug-01-10 03:39 PM
I love this series because it's the spunky urban fantasy style...and yet isn't.
917, 19: Reading by the Colors by Helen Irlen
Posted by MarFisk, Sun Aug-01-10 03:41 PM
This is non-fiction introducing and explaining the Irlen Syndrome where the ability to filter light affects the ability to read and function. Because of this, and talking to Val and her husband who is affected as well, I went and got tested. Now I'm seeing green :), at least until I get my lenses.
918, 20: Winters Passage by Julie Kagawa
Posted by MarFisk, Sun Aug-01-10 03:42 PM
This is a novella, but it's packaged as a book, so I'm counting it :).
919, 21: Demon Hunts by C.E. Murphy
Posted by MarFisk, Sun Aug-01-10 03:42 PM
Another wonderful one.
920, 22: Tender Morsels by Margo Lanagan
Posted by MarFisk, Sun Aug-01-10 03:44 PM
Not sure if I should count this one either as it's an audio book rather than a reading book, but I was counting ebooks, so...

Finally ended up with a long enough car ride by myself to finish it off, and it's a very strange but entrancing book, good enough to keep my frustration level down when it took 3 hrs of crawling through construction to go 100 miles on the interstate.
1082, 23: On the Edge by Ilona Andrews
